Learn how to create professional custom-made orthoses that can make a real difference to your client’s comfort.

Painful pressure points, hammer toes, claw toes, overlapping toes… Foot problems can have a significant impact on your clients’ everyday comfort.

During this practical training course, you will learn how to correctly create custom-made orthoses using medical-grade silicone, tailored to the individual foot and the client’s specific needs.

Because a good orthosis is never a one-size-fits-all solution: every foot requires an individual approach.

What is an orthosis?

  • An orthosis is a custom-made device created from medical-grade silicone. Within specialised foot care, it can be used to reduce pressure and friction, support or correct the position of the toes and protect sensitive areas.
  • The orthosis is moulded directly onto the foot, allowing it to be adapted to the client’s individual anatomy and needs.

What will you learn?

  • How to correctly assess the foot and toe position
  • How to determine which type of orthosis is appropriate
  • How to select the correct shape and silicone hardness
  • How to work correctly with medical-grade silicone
  • How to mould an orthosis directly onto the foot
  • How to correctly finish and adjust the orthosis
  • How to recognise and avoid unwanted pressure points
  • Working with different toe and pressure-related problems
  • How to advise clients on use, maintenance and aftercare
  • The importance of regular checks and adjustments

Why work with orthoses?

A correctly made orthosis allows you to respond to the individual needs of your client in a highly targeted way.

The aim can be to:

  • reduce pain and pressure
  • support or correct toe position
  • protect sensitive areas from friction
  • help prevent callus formation and pressure points
  • improve comfort while walking
  • help prevent new or recurring foot problems

When can an orthosis be used? Orthoses can be used for various conditions, including:

  • hammer toes
  • claw toes
  • hallux valgus
  • overlapping toes
  • corns
  • pressure points and other pressure-related lesions

From assessment to a custom-made orthosis

A good orthosis always starts with a correct assessment.

That’s why you won’t simply learn how to make an orthosis. You will also learn how to determine the right shape, function and silicone hardness for your client’s individual needs.

Step by step, you will learn how to mould the silicone directly onto the foot, adapt the orthosis to the anatomy and check that it is both comfortable and functional.

We also cover aftercare and follow-up, so you know how to identify unwanted pressure points and adjust the orthosis when necessary.

A valuable and practical specialisation for foot care professionals who want to offer their clients a more personalised approach and improve their everyday comfort.

  • Course duration: 4 hours
  • Number of participants: minimum 2 – maximum 4 participants
  • Level: advanced training – previous foot care knowledge required

Learn by doing
This advanced training course has a strong hands-on focus. We deliberately work in small groups of no more than 4 participants, allowing plenty of time for personal guidance, questions and practising the techniques in detail.
During part of the training, participants will practise on each other. In addition, each participant is required to bring 1 model, giving you the opportunity to apply the techniques in a realistic practical setting.

Starter kit
A specific starter kit containing the necessary professional products and/or materials is available for this training course.
The starter kit is not included in the course registration fee and must be purchased separately.
This ensures that you have the correct materials during the training and can continue practising and applying the technique in your own practice afterwards.

Invest in your expertise
Want to further distinguish yourself as a specialised foot care professional? Continuing to develop your skills and expertise can help you offer even more value to your clients.
This hands-on advanced training allows you to expand your professional knowledge and skills, provide more targeted solutions for your clients and strengthen your position as a specialised foot care professional.
And because we keep our groups small, you receive the personal attention and guidance you need to truly master the technique.

Previous knowledge and experience in foot care are required to participate in this advanced training course.
